Swim Teacher Trainer
A Certified Trainer from Swim Schools International is capable of training and certifying the Level 1 Swim Teacher, Level 2 Swim Teacher, Adult Swim Teacher and Baby & Me Swim Teacher levels. This means that a location with a Trainer on staff is not only able to offer the entire Swim Schools International curriculum for teaching, but is able to train new staff to accomodate the needs of whatever facility they are in.
Swim Teacher Trainer Standards
Trainer: An active Swim Trainer Certifier or higher may conduct the Swim Teacher Trainer training program. The Trainer Certifier is to directly supervise, visually observe and evaluate all required knowledge and skills for Swim Teacher Trainer.
Equipment: Swim Teacher Trainer participants are required to have all equipment listed in the training manuals.
Content: The knowledge and skills to be covered in the Swim Teacher Trainer program are those provided in the SSI Swim Teacher Trainer Manual and the SSI Level 1 Swim Teacher Manual, SSI Level 2 Swim Teacher Manual, SSI Baby & Me Swim Teacher Manual, and SSI Adult Swim Teacher Manual.
Intent: The intent of the Swim Teacher Trainer program is to provide Swim Teachers with the training necessary to teach swimming autonomously.
Minimum Age: The minimum age for participation in the Swim Teacher Trainer program is 18 years of age.
Minimum Skill: Teachers in the Swim Teacher Trainer program are to demonstrate effective watermanship skills that include a 200-yard swim using a stroke of their chosing and a 10-minute survival float without the use of any floatation aids.
Prerequisite: Swim Schools International certifications of Level 1 Swim Teacher, Level 2 Swim Teacher, Adult Swim Teacher and Baby & Me Swim Teacher are required prior to certification of Swim Teacher Trainer.
CPR/First Aid: Teachers in the Swim Teacher Trainer program are to maintain proof of current certification in CPR and first aid for children, infants and adults.
Program Duration: The number of classes, hours and sessions per day are set by the individual Trainer Certifier, based on teacher needs, teacher ability, class availability and water conditions.
Ratio: The maximum number of Swim Teacher Trainer students for Classroom training is 12 to 1. The ratio may increase to 20 to 2 with a Certified Teacher assisting. The maximum number of Swim Teacher Trainer students for In-Water training is 10 to 1. The ratio may increase to 12 to 2 with a Certified Trainer assisting or 16 to 3 with two Certified Trainers assisting.
Final Exam: Each teacher receiving a Swim Teacher Trainer certification must have passed a Final Exam with a minimum passing score of 80%.
Apprenticeship: Each teacher receiving a Swim Teacher Trainer certification must have completed a minimum 12 hours of apprenticeship under a certified Swim Trainer Certifier.
Certification: Swim Teacher Trainer entitles the holder to train and certify Level 1 Swim Teachers, Level 2 Swim Teachers, Adult Swim Teachers and Baby & Me Swim Teachers autonomously.
Active Status: Active Swim Teacher Trainers are required to maintain current professional liability insurance (if required in the local area) and current SSI Swim Teacher Trainer materials.
